Within Hokitika...

Hokitika is a very creative town, with many Arts and Crafts shops exhibiting local artists' work. Explore the Hokitika Historical Museum, with displays of Westland's past.  Or check out our great shops and cafes. You can have an evening stroll along the Hokitika beach, enjoy watching the sunset at Sunset Point, before visiting the Glowworm Dell.

Drive across the Kaniere Bridge, and this takes you to the Rimu lookout (and walkway) you could call into the Woodstock Tavern (meals available) or continue down the Woodstock-Rimu Road to the West Coast Treetop Walkway & Cafe, 13 km from 154

Driving out and about...

The Hokitika Gorge, turn right out our drive and it is approx. 30km inland, through the Kowhitirangi farming district.  Lake Kaniere is 22km drive or you can make this an approx. 60km round trip, taking you past Dorothy Falls and the Kokatahi Township, call into the Valley Cafe (Kokatahi Hotel) for a coffee. At Lake Kaniere you can enjoy swimming, water skiing, picnics and walkways. Lake Mahinapua, 10km south of Hokitika, is another great location for picnicking or short bush walks, continue south to Ross and visit Ross Goldfields Heritage Area.

Base yourself at 154 Kaniere Road Accommodation and enjoy day trips to the Glaciers (2 hours drive south) in Westland National Park. To the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks (1-1/2 hours drive north) in the Paparoa National Park.

For those of you who have tramping boots, kayaks or mountain bikes, welcome aboard! We can offer you some great days tramps Tahua (Lake Kaniere) Mt Greenland (Ross), Mt TeKinga (Lake Brunner) or go further afield to Avalanche Peak in Arthurs Pass National Park.

Kayaking, you have Lakes Kaniere and Mahinapua or the many popular runs for whitewater kayakers. The Hokitika River, Arahura, Whitcombe, Styx and Kokatahi. Hokitika's latest attraction is well worth a trip.
